I’m Shay, and I started a blog called DreamHomeBasedWork.com back in 2014, a resource for people who want to look for legitimate work from home opportunities. Before I started my blog, I thought I could offer resources to help people in their search, so I created my blog. It was during a time where there were no blog mentors, courses, or anything else.
I had to research everything, from promotion to how to make money from my blog. The strategies that I’ll be sharing with you are the tips and tricks that I’ve learned, and still use today, to have a successful money-making blog.
#1 Continue To Write Content
I see a lot of new bloggers get discouraged when they’ve been blogging for months and aren’t seeing traffic. You have to be consistent. You can’t write once a week and then take a month to write another blog post. No one wants to come to an antique blog. You need to be consistent.
#2 Use a Social Media Platform
One of the first social media platforms that I joined was YouTube. I thought it was really important to connect with my readers via video. I needed to show my face so people would come to trust me and know who was behind the scenes creating the content.
I also joined Pinterest. When I first joined Pinterest and started sharing my content, my blog grew beyond my wildest dreams. It is my #1 social media platform that brings in most of my social media traffic. How does Pinterest work? It’s an image-heavy platform that allows you to upload your own image and adding in the link to your website, social media platform, product that you’re selling, etc. When someone clicks on an image and clicks again, it will take them to the URL that the photo is linked to.
People can share your content on their own boards, or with their audience, which can make your traffic on your blog explode. People search for many different things on Pinterest, so you can really make a difference.
I also used Google + (at the time), Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, and more. I wanted to build my online presence and let people know what I did. Once I continued to share my content on a daily basis, and consistently, I started to see results. Even when you don’t feel like people are visiting your blog and you’re not making money, you still need to be consistent.
Proof Of My Earnings
First, I want to share my analytics with you from my first year online. I saw about 1,000 page views per day at first. As I continued building my blog, I was able to turn that into 15,000-20,000 page views per day, all in one year.
So how did I make money from this?
- Google Adsense – This allows you to place ads on your website. When people visit your blog and clicks on that ad, you’ll earn a percentage of that click. You can make a significant amount of money based on the traffic you get. I went from making under $100 a month to a little over $3,000 a month. I made around $37,000 my first year with Google Adsense
- Media.net – This is another ad platform that I used. It works similar to Google Adsense. I went from $400 a month to almost $4,000 a month in a year.
- Panthera – I also decided to incorporate affiliate marketing because I didn’t want to rely just on ads. What is affiliate marketing? It’s when you recommend a product or service that isn’t yours, and get a percentage of the sale if someone purchases that product or service. I decided to go with Panthera as my affiliate network, and I still work with them to this day. In my first month, I made $60. But as I got better with my affiliate marketing, I was able to earn up to $3,600 a month in my first year.
